</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I take the excess of shirts:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_bAnX96U2_CGUYbQA2rwIdEBbnC3rDtRIDt4rPrBYtIT15Z1106NG2xp81MsMnWoiHHBpDw_3JAlJBFu97oGaILN1CAYsmTb22CGs0EV_rq25XkQg1WNcMn46f4pqPtW2sJXFKc-bTtgA/s1600/DSCN0534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_bAnX96U2_CGUYbQA2rwIdEBbnC3rDtRIDt4rPrBYtIT15Z1106NG2xp81MsMnWoiHHBpDw_3JAlJBFu97oGaILN1CAYsmTb22CGs0EV_rq25XkQg1WNcMn46f4pqPtW2sJXFKc-bTtgA/s320/DSCN0534.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Cut out the logo then back it with some interfacing for support/strength:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNL0awhtQJmv4WR273w-Ii-efLt8DPADjHFNesmgDW1cxa-WZ0-pBShrW7rwsCwGklg_kjA8wbLTC2P_R77vN2yoS_AjpIwY84BGmLsLvEmbRscCEhtdf84pGoSzOxpc1TJfHS6StkcsYJ/s1600/DSCN0537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNL0awhtQJmv4WR273w-Ii-efLt8DPADjHFNesmgDW1cxa-WZ0-pBShrW7rwsCwGklg_kjA8wbLTC2P_R77vN2yoS_AjpIwY84BGmLsLvEmbRscCEhtdf84pGoSzOxpc1TJfHS6StkcsYJ/s320/DSCN0537.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>I find that my rotary cutter gets the job done much faster with more precision than scissors. Just remember to use a ruler :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Next I stitch the edges to lock everything in and trim the edges. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihrxDLD8NfL9chpsPQvUolHcIu8HM143f3JPfjUtqPKW9q1rWnqKKRkQPPqTFtna0nhb1W9e124NNdFbmgUKFajzasL01QVzr9OP8dH8pWXFPiSwVoDG9Npn_7QrwbakvcMHFbsqnVZjUn/s1600/DSCN0538.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihrxDLD8NfL9chpsPQvUolHcIu8HM143f3JPfjUtqPKW9q1rWnqKKRkQPPqTFtna0nhb1W9e124NNdFbmgUKFajzasL01QVzr9OP8dH8pWXFPiSwVoDG9Npn_7QrwbakvcMHFbsqnVZjUn/s320/DSCN0538.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Viola!! Your $10 non-salable/waste of space shirt just turned into a hot $8 patch (or your hot $10 patch?? you name the price..I won't judge)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUswKVooGBnlXJKJQMwu5oyZdfgvmnS9qBdx43rkC8DtN84RIqgMv0SPBr7g_M7_DpUKAM2TAoyo7mvnb4fpzTV4eUwd2ODAxeZOZlGufIyLUbgLBtlnNLzNx6qIsAh7gQ10fyGQd3PGf/s1600/DSCN0539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPUswKVooGBnlXJKJQMwu5oyZdfgvmnS9qBdx43rkC8DtN84RIqgMv0SPBr7g_M7_DpUKAM2TAoyo7mvnb4fpzTV4eUwd2ODAxeZOZlGufIyLUbgLBtlnNLzNx6qIsAh7gQ10fyGQd3PGf/s320/DSCN0539.JPG" width="320" /></a></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Bands will just cut up the t-shirt and sell it like that but with my interfacing touch, its going to last way longer and look better. I use a lightweight interfacing that still gives the knit some movement but isn't too floppy or hard to work with. Interfacing also gives support, so you can wear it through rain/shine/snow/fire/lightning and its going to last way longer than if it were bare backed.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">You can sew it onto your favorite jacket, tote bag, backpack, sleeping bag, whatever. Sport it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I had a budget of about $25 and 2 days till Halloween. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The Cleopatra costumes I found in stores and online were all $40 and up without accessories. The designs were super simple and plain, made of the cheapest fabrics (polyester, plastic, itchy stuff)</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmMjvqblzoxX4zdfNd5kxQJVztg7PAIVGTaXgmewZruLE0ZL4mTqMhg1UGS28lcVi8Cn62o_4Rjv9hUCQ2Wn6OSttxIaFenby9dYhX_R_7IgPrbvhbkaUyCaRXv9-bYRNSkB1D_jgtJO9f/s1600/fgytrdsgg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvKSZzV53-tUOpsJp-s9vEgoluVep5hzNJlQwXh4RBVv2Z8Cmygi9St0EA7ksUGu-QvnUtvWj6aWIeQ1lUa90m_QJXTr6bxb1FJZ1x4_U2cNb_4iQDVhIqI0O34c7PSE54YpiwoLzrz9PW/s1600/1109-cleopatra-costume.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvKSZzV53-tUOpsJp-s9vEgoluVep5hzNJlQwXh4RBVv2Z8Cmygi9St0EA7ksUGu-QvnUtvWj6aWIeQ1lUa90m_QJXTr6bxb1FJZ1x4_U2cNb_4iQDVhIqI0O34c7PSE54YpiwoLzrz9PW/s200/1109-cleopatra-costume.jpg" width="134" /></a><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-F4oZb3MBqiwNCTvQSka9FrPp4YcEe7n6GEutUJmsckMkgOvy9ayJiaSk4D5qNRu7IuGZMNgHIlAoeODmzqLnM0qfijRy44i6LMhd0QRFB3Uau0eTf-BiJ4FwqU3fKicwmY124vNoqu1W/s200/Cleopatra-costume.jpg" width="200" /></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd4ocO4AaoLMt6Bq1AzNxxf_etJJKT2ebL-p3N2i41JuP1BYn0bi75EMHSzzSyMVw3zBDrN5yjFi-SecS2GaKY29efOj40cRePn1KPyCmcaKQai-NlLpvuapgBqGlcEItgmCPjFFoO1Voe/s200/Golden_0020_Cleopatra.jpg" width="114" /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;">haha this one is silly.... and $60.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div>After soaking up information and ideas, I raided my closet, drawers, and boxes to look for things Cleo would wear. I found perfect gold strappy sandals, some beautiful gold trims, and a ton of gold jewelry.<br />
<br />
What I couldn't find was something to actually cover my body... I don't wear much gold so nothing in my closet. Nothing suitable in my fabric boxes either so I had to go shopping. At Joannes I got some more gold trim, 1/4 yard of gold metallic (belt? collar?), and I found a gold fabric remnant for a dollar. I waited off on buying other fabrics to see if I could find a gold dress or something.<br />
<br />
I searched through all the dresses and skirts at Ross. nothing nothing. I was gonna have to make this costume from scratch. I went to the curtain/drape section and found a nice (non itchy) gold curtain for $3.99. Then I found a cream colored satin sheet in the clearance section for $3.99. Perfect cheap fabric! At Joannes it would have been $4-8 for just a yard of anything usable. Next I picked out a basic $8 flesh colored bra that I could add to. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUjQvzahrb5bIFPG8MlRDl6yvO73QL6zra-HfhxypLZ6PYwMf6I74oSYbZu7ZDrpp-AfFMObe550qRlU3orMgcFU1ZSyxKbkbCNKs0lvhsq55d41olC535cVw9DzwXWu94EjhqmtFtXFzU/s1600/DSCN0482.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUjQvzahrb5bIFPG8MlRDl6yvO73QL6zra-HfhxypLZ6PYwMf6I74oSYbZu7ZDrpp-AfFMObe550qRlU3orMgcFU1ZSyxKbkbCNKs0lvhsq55d41olC535cVw9DzwXWu94EjhqmtFtXFzU/s320/DSCN0482.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuZAR4jSd0Wmtlx4HNv4SFqmhXrYEbNxY_HAedCLnL7Nu-WBFLseWvaPwUEfpvhoXuR2gwxDFtmHZRqK16WubCk6s-RYgO6XIub9WXWFNnMw1WwY6HuMhOykgyxAWM2G_rtIpXEmtpxDPB/s1600/DSCN0481.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I started out covering the bra with the gold remnant fabric I found at Joannes. The shimmer gives it a pretty finish. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifvWGG4RprUzqoG4MEyBgPjgkNASvBhFgDFjftlLYLPyPwyovtloKiE5ckf6RCTnuBLrvQEZ6BQ49UKUpqY8QQjbKCSfoUi0jNd2Cj9mMxaW3lt0N4clnWURoDi75SyKbfWtbRuougibag/s1600/DSCN0489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifvWGG4RprUzqoG4MEyBgPjgkNASvBhFgDFjftlLYLPyPwyovtloKiE5ckf6RCTnuBLrvQEZ6BQ49UKUpqY8QQjbKCSfoUi0jNd2Cj9mMxaW3lt0N4clnWURoDi75SyKbfWtbRuougibag/s320/DSCN0489.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Then I added gold trim to the straps, top and bottom of the bra. Now, theres a trick to sewing things onto elastic if you're planning on keeping the stretch. The key is to <i>stretch</i> the material then sew the elastic on while its still stretched. When you release the stretch the trim is going to bundle up but it will look normal once its stretched out again. If you sew trim down without doing this step, the elastic has no where to stretch and it won't fit anymore.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3XoFG39zy1zQ9KqbGaFDF6bo3B90lP24jUBSL2WOu445lpO86VBkb8dr6UG9ATV8Uae6vEOJWMjO3QL0iyluzPd3xg22L_YjVgjVL7qktase3zu_utSfHYbBa_fNuXRudP6gLS9kbkOl4/s1600/DSCN0491.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3XoFG39zy1zQ9KqbGaFDF6bo3B90lP24jUBSL2WOu445lpO86VBkb8dr6UG9ATV8Uae6vEOJWMjO3QL0iyluzPd3xg22L_YjVgjVL7qktase3zu_utSfHYbBa_fNuXRudP6gLS9kbkOl4/s320/DSCN0491.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
Conveniently, there was a loop on the back of my ruby pendant that that allow me to sew it onto the middle section of my bra.<br />
I took a broken necklace and hooked it onto the bra for a chain-look. </div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Pictures of Cleopatra usually have her wearing a gold collar. I drafted a pattern and cut it out of the gold metallic from Joannes.</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZqqneAjff5VQbxTNGVcyTyzLeAsniVdeN9IhU1UZbHeq_CKTi5dY_B-36HmyoQmpNxVr_XCZ-0IQYOEADdRGtDw3jlBz8fO6HADNoecdZyJUBv8lw3YY1vVklVwd-YvnfBbmXTDG_9wxy/s1600/DSCN0484.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZqqneAjff5VQbxTNGVcyTyzLeAsniVdeN9IhU1UZbHeq_CKTi5dY_B-36HmyoQmpNxVr_XCZ-0IQYOEADdRGtDw3jlBz8fO6HADNoecdZyJUBv8lw3YY1vVklVwd-YvnfBbmXTDG_9wxy/s320/DSCN0484.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">I really like capes.. and there are few opportunities to wear them, one being Halloween. For my gold cape I used the gold curtain I got at Ross. I ripped out the stitching to leave a ripped seam look. I attached the fabric to the collar and made a fastening out of a beaded neckline trim I had.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZf-bS6uso-UktNoukawyJ-Kz16tjD4P_RhHfCo_r6Ki_hd_ENOraFk-L6ylEeECO5zXVadaaBxWYiblQoOPep1FwaCT9L1gPhlIw5QtLM8xcSMopEB4ari-Q6HtXJ8iS3jMI_yVec5hij/s1600/DSCN0493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZf-bS6uso-UktNoukawyJ-Kz16tjD4P_RhHfCo_r6Ki_hd_ENOraFk-L6ylEeECO5zXVadaaBxWYiblQoOPep1FwaCT9L1gPhlIw5QtLM8xcSMopEB4ari-Q6HtXJ8iS3jMI_yVec5hij/s320/DSCN0493.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghhBH1U95btIAwpnsAa41yjzjYu9fUY_WMFBkXPMVcJLCA7-OwIm5ceSoFJl1w27pRIY0kVa06AgLKiWPn3xstt-sxYGn9yI9T0rnet-Ez_sf7YLGnSn8e94A4z0B4-uMZ_sjOxKaI-TYd/s1600/DSCN0496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghhBH1U95btIAwpnsAa41yjzjYu9fUY_WMFBkXPMVcJLCA7-OwIm5ceSoFJl1w27pRIY0kVa06AgLKiWPn3xstt-sxYGn9yI9T0rnet-Ez_sf7YLGnSn8e94A4z0B4-uMZ_sjOxKaI-TYd/s320/DSCN0496.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The fastest/easiest way to connect the fastening was velcro... the only color I had was green though :/ This was one of the last things I was rushing to do before going out. Attempting to attach the velcro, I broke 2 needles and some beads trying to use the machine as a "fast way out". There were too many beads for the machines liking so I ended up having to make a super fast hand stitch job which wasn't very good, it started coming out by the end of the night. Thats what I get for rushing.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Next thing I needed was a skirt. I didn't need to do anything too crazy since the bra/collar/jewelry was already so much. I took that $3.99 satin sheet and ripped out the edges. I "fashionably" wrapped the skirt around my waist and pinned it tight. I took some safety pins and pinned portions of it up to give it some volume (and keep me from tripping over it). Then I wrapped the leftover material I used to cover the bra and used it as a tie. Heres a picture of the fabric:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3rLKervL5m7ez_B2SOJNHXFuKgHGynl7_khwOzAzF3D9R0sF0Ckerhc_LohE9JLR-k3qrZ-d_E1_hG3tHKlneZzqVPeIJAG0rQ6WovAiBnFYXor-z-1B27eNxTxMWWr5UGbFcVB9E1391/s1600/DSCN0497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3rLKervL5m7ez_B2SOJNHXFuKgHGynl7_khwOzAzF3D9R0sF0Ckerhc_LohE9JLR-k3qrZ-d_E1_hG3tHKlneZzqVPeIJAG0rQ6WovAiBnFYXor-z-1B27eNxTxMWWr5UGbFcVB9E1391/s320/DSCN0497.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">And lastly, </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-QQHxlaGbZRoG1ZanmVvU6su3NkacMqt_x4tO77OghYYDoFSu0TLbdAYOxOrjwPif5arsgK8NpJ35_KbSB7Ls5zJAyWa8cw89hyphenhyphencvrW_75Wjj1Pw9jaHq-HMGJk1ITj0FHb5C5glfwMtN/s1600/DSCN0499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-QQHxlaGbZRoG1ZanmVvU6su3NkacMqt_x4tO77OghYYDoFSu0TLbdAYOxOrjwPif5arsgK8NpJ35_KbSB7Ls5zJAyWa8cw89hyphenhyphencvrW_75Wjj1Pw9jaHq-HMGJk1ITj0FHb5C5glfwMtN/s320/DSCN0499.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">Accessories!!! I made my butterfly headdress by attaching my gold butterfly pin to a gold necklace I had and then pinned it into my hair. The thick gold necklace was one I've had in a craft box for years, I found it at a swap meet for like a dollar because the stone it had was long gone. I attached my blue and green pin to that by tightly sewing/tying it to the gold necklace with thick embroidery thread. I didn't want to permanently attach my pin to that necklace because I still want to wear it on my clothes. Gold earrings I had inherited from my aunt years ago, rings were all ones I had.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">My Cleo costume was a huge success! I wore it the entire weekend. It was comfortable and I glittered in the sun. I wore it to work and greeted customers that entered the movie theater. One man asked if I was Princess Leah, but other than that everyone knew exactly who I was. So many loved my costume and I even got one offer to have it bought off me! I told the woman that being as I made it myself, I could make her a custom one and gave her my card. :)<br />

I like the texture of the black material and how you can still see through it a little bit. I usually go for all back but I like the way that the nude mesh gives the appearance that you are only covered by black bits. I want to see what it looks like against skin. <br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOd1QDVuhec9lw4usp6f8UbdKfcxknX3DREQrOwO3Y0K_bu6FIUQaEOmXI-C8WbpsIEXhoyqybVxWTaRaPyLpQAfyEFg9XGzu2bEpk_Hxiq_Skzq-9Qb-wzl6rrqMZcHBx0mNbrGCE80YN/s1600/Bacon-scarf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="155" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOd1QDVuhec9lw4usp6f8UbdKfcxknX3DREQrOwO3Y0K_bu6FIUQaEOmXI-C8WbpsIEXhoyqybVxWTaRaPyLpQAfyEFg9XGzu2bEpk_Hxiq_Skzq-9Qb-wzl6rrqMZcHBx0mNbrGCE80YN/s320/Bacon-scarf.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Christine has thought of other, cheaper ways to make these scarves like knitting or painting but finds her hand felting technique is more realistic looking. It takes about a whole weekend to finish one scarf! I appreciate her hands-on bacon scarf process because when you spend that much time on a project... it becomes special and more meaningful. Theres a lot of art and soul that goes into the one item. <br />
<br />
"I’ve considered adding some kind of artificial bacon smell to make the scarf even more realistic but I understand that’s a little gross.”<br />
<br />
-i love her.<br />
<br />
She makes other beautiful felted scarves as well which you can buy on<span style="color: red;"> </span><a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/chrischunski?ref=seller_info" style="color: red;">etsy.</a><span style="color: red;"> </span>Bacon scarf runs for $120, other scarves range from $25-$45.<br />
I like this one:<br />

<br />
I had found a bronze piece with an "A" on it and saved it to make something for my friend <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54344864@N04/5088616496/" style="color: red;">Adeline</a>. I later found a tiger stone pin that used to have something glued onto it but throughout the course of its hard life, whatever that thing was has been lost. Adeline's favorite stone is tiger so I married the two to each other and am quite satisfied with the result.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9_dZ-D16pMQo5kTSkWgQ4_DI3v1w2nnf88PMW6lEeQszmBWmodsA0EUu_TKNIsEB8JnQYqJzKEmN_mf5nLrOWFILgVkHQ6EOx-UO2oCMz_aptS9BdwKPYHErzn11Iidp5P9JjxV2gXGyN/s1600/DSCN0460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9_dZ-D16pMQo5kTSkWgQ4_DI3v1w2nnf88PMW6lEeQszmBWmodsA0EUu_TKNIsEB8JnQYqJzKEmN_mf5nLrOWFILgVkHQ6EOx-UO2oCMz_aptS9BdwKPYHErzn11Iidp5P9JjxV2gXGyN/s320/DSCN0460.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I originally wanted to attach the "A" piece to a necklace or zipper pull or something but I liked the contrast on the stone. Also, I took some black thread and wound it to the top to make it look like it had been attached then ripped off of something (I'm into little details..)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhePAIhDMjzUewbmphf1xZcYLA4Y08zQS_iLN9fNj_ug3d0oTz4N5ueSTSupvVn_l47AAaSsmelppZjvnY9cKyuBqnjAz9XpJSzVImqCiougHf47JdbpojT37m3RiE72Pk9oClvWPPm_dcc/s1600/DSCN0461.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhePAIhDMjzUewbmphf1xZcYLA4Y08zQS_iLN9fNj_ug3d0oTz4N5ueSTSupvVn_l47AAaSsmelppZjvnY9cKyuBqnjAz9XpJSzVImqCiougHf47JdbpojT37m3RiE72Pk9oClvWPPm_dcc/s320/DSCN0461.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> I glued the "A" and reinforced the backing with my favorite craft glue, "SOBO" which is pictured below along with my assistant, Fievel. I use this glue for everything... paper, wood, fabric, leather, fur, etc. It dries clear like its invisible! I discovered it when I was in a set design class and had to make set models out of paper and foam board. <br />

I was looking through spring 2011 rtw on <a href="http://www.style.com/">style.com</a> and discovered this: <br />

I love it. love the hat, the boots, and most especially that cape. This would be a good idea for a zorro costume but um... been there, done that.. 2008.<br />

I wore pleather pants and knee high boots, silver medallion belt, black linen peasant top, black cape, hat, and I made myself a face mask out of black velvet. Oh, and instead of a sword I carried around a black leather whip. I'm back to life! First stop is this here blogspot, as its in dire need of attention. My apologies for not updating lately but now i'm back on track!<br />
<br />
So my brother James... one of the sweetest, raddest guys you'll ever meet. He's the lead singer of <a href="http://www.myspace.com/holygrail"><span style="color: red;">Holy Grail</span></a> which you should most definitely check out. They just finished their new album "Crisis in Utopia" and will be playing at a crazy metal festival in Japan this week. James is an awesome older brother and has been a major influence on my fashion sense while growing up. This is the guy who wore a plaid suit to his senior prom. He's an excellent shopper and introduced me to all the amazing hidden thrift stores and the wonderful world of ebay. <br />
<br />
Now that im older I try to repay him for years of wisdom by being his personal seamstress.. taking in shirts, fixing his pant seams that ripped while jumping around on stage, sewing in band patches. The last project we worked on was a bit more of a challenge. He wanted a custom made stage vest for performing.. He gave me 2 of his favorite vests, told me what he liked about each, and what he wanted differently. I took all this info and created a fresh pattern that was a blend of the 2 vests + some adjustments.<br />
<br />
Heres the final result:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0xMP-MEmZQreROlfhwL9fg8uB_iDmgX8ghavbWDWsdn0T38DKdIQDK9zzkCOfAdlOkud1Dv580ZLSpbhUjtgu_cXgPy-kTc4mPhezmi8jyezGtK4kIqDVuufflFwG7VlAfnz1BOz3D7Wa/s1600/vest.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0xMP-MEmZQreROlfhwL9fg8uB_iDmgX8ghavbWDWsdn0T38DKdIQDK9zzkCOfAdlOkud1Dv580ZLSpbhUjtgu_cXgPy-kTc4mPhezmi8jyezGtK4kIqDVuufflFwG7VlAfnz1BOz3D7Wa/s320/vest.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We chose a pleather for the outside and a satiny fabric for the lining. This was my first time working with pleather and probably my last unless i'm making a bag or something. Even though I have an industrial machine, I went through several needles and my machine made some scary noises. I had shards of needles flown at my face, bleeding fingers, and cried at least once. Then I realized I had been using the wrong size needle... oh how it makes a difference! Trust me, go to downtown LA and stock up on as many different needle sizes as you can so you don't end up hating yourself. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Aside from the needle troubles, the pleather was just plain funky. One of the side seams kept curling up and I couldn't get it to stay down. Also, I was not satisfied with the overall drape of the vest. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Next assignment: Redo the whole vest in REAL leather. I'm thinking a nice soft, pliable leather. It will drape better and look great on stage. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">p.s. these buttons are really cool : )</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSxBsq9HNwMR1XAPhmwtRBJSOyx6cBDjMDbpibzwhsywsSKKM547aFvoF6LYY9acW50ON_wxnLlrNReWQqLouOuvm7__BK13BrH-lARuiIxbYr5l73y7z0cbJJ_QpGX4vuu324y9IrTdCZ/s1600/IMG_3057.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" ex="true" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSxBsq9HNwMR1XAPhmwtRBJSOyx6cBDjMDbpibzwhsywsSKKM547aFvoF6LYY9acW50ON_wxnLlrNReWQqLouOuvm7__BK13BrH-lARuiIxbYr5l73y7z0cbJJ_QpGX4vuu324y9IrTdCZ/s320/IMG_3057.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

My assignment for the last couple weeks was to design a dress to enter into the "Dare to Design" contest for the Company <a href="http://www.shabbyapple.com/"><span style="color: red;">Shabby Apple</span></a>. If you haven't heard of them, check out the site... they make super cute dresses for reasonable prices. The design for the contest had to follow a few guidelines: dresses need to be with sleeves, a hemline to the knee, and no cleavage. And of course, it should look like something they would actually sell. My teacher decided to step it up a notch and have us use a particular movie to inspire our designs.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is the design I went with. The lace on the neckline with a fitted bodice and flared skirt. I could have gone really overboard with lace but I think this has just the right amount to not look like a halloween costume. </div>SEWCERESShttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11697787227169701537noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8648602542144625843.post-12642736908782780982010-09-27T10:06:00.000-07:002010-09-30T22:29:50.910-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I've been searching and waiting for the perfect back patch for my <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/54344864@N04/5030086563/"><span style="color: #990000;">favorite denim jacket</span></a>. I'm really bad at picking favorites, so it was hard for me to decide what band I wanted to dedicate my jacket to, since i'll be wearing it all the time. One day I had a revelation, a vision.... I would make my own. And it doesn't have to be a band patch, I can make whatever I want! I turned to the inspiration of this awesome book I 'borrowed' from my sister:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwhSpKKY5KIP3s-WYKYTeTaS3pP1UQLFTh6m3oAxuhRhTsLk_Hj4l8NXaad1D6NQU8NPqq4Sv_vPDIGLjcXU5E69tdh2zKzkP_DzlCtAuFbqOUVdE4QP6Xx4GN-HX7DpNxTdynDrrha6lP/s1600/xray+book+cover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwhSpKKY5KIP3s-WYKYTeTaS3pP1UQLFTh6m3oAxuhRhTsLk_Hj4l8NXaad1D6NQU8NPqq4Sv_vPDIGLjcXU5E69tdh2zKzkP_DzlCtAuFbqOUVdE4QP6Xx4GN-HX7DpNxTdynDrrha6lP/s320/xray+book+cover.jpg" width="251" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This book is a collection of XRAYS Nick Veasey set up, he xrays anything from a flower to a pair of undies to a cell phone. My favorites are the insects, bugs, animals. The perfect one I had in mind for my jacket is this bat skeleton:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHq9hzIGf9aEhJnIvG-pI5s5GxhVdM0PL1X3djoPysp7vL0hkrqe5M_bWNOpN2xlL5vqsQg-RbeRwaCnG-yC6NHKN-qXK4PSOJgCnFk3w9CAyNYwG2UPxbYzJsnFk3vnYR-ElA53NuKx1w/s1600/bat+skele.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHq9hzIGf9aEhJnIvG-pI5s5GxhVdM0PL1X3djoPysp7vL0hkrqe5M_bWNOpN2xlL5vqsQg-RbeRwaCnG-yC6NHKN-qXK4PSOJgCnFk3w9CAyNYwG2UPxbYzJsnFk3vnYR-ElA53NuKx1w/s320/bat+skele.gif" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I traced the image and divided it into two parts: the background (wings) and the skeleton. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNH8mUZDxhCaCDtJqDjKb6n31XUl8EUTFgrL0BgAWDR6c8MrS_Xs_87FHgYbHfT6Phc_66evQ-7zdarO2r0p5AyVWt3xpA0QTb1ZMxHKLqZ92mo7fh4pIjkzR_SsJd2pELEIcGzuWGgP-E/s1600/bat+back+sketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="194" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNH8mUZDxhCaCDtJqDjKb6n31XUl8EUTFgrL0BgAWDR6c8MrS_Xs_87FHgYbHfT6Phc_66evQ-7zdarO2r0p5AyVWt3xpA0QTb1ZMxHKLqZ92mo7fh4pIjkzR_SsJd2pELEIcGzuWGgP-E/s320/bat+back+sketch.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then I created 2 seperate pattern pieces. This is what the skeleton piece looks like:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiBu-ioOoppYlVDsKiuSDUFZPSSg1bDAJzmaqMTs5km8Bo6lEylHyXHjyg4qy5DZP_eMma-psZ36h7xH-qRWV2KS8drdgRdCuMmm1KWJRCwDcxdWHu9Dt3wepe-KxoLYWczI2qlvb4UP0l/s1600/bat+back+skele+pattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="190" px="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiBu-ioOoppYlVDsKiuSDUFZPSSg1bDAJzmaqMTs5km8Bo6lEylHyXHjyg4qy5DZP_eMma-psZ36h7xH-qRWV2KS8drdgRdCuMmm1KWJRCwDcxdWHu9Dt3wepe-KxoLYWczI2qlvb4UP0l/s320/bat+back+skele+pattern.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I used black denim for the background and muslin for the front piece. Now, when you cut muslin that thin.. it starts to fall apart. I ended up losing a leg and a couple little bits here and there. To solve this I took my handy dandy "Fray-Check" which is a liquid applied to fabric that hardens and keeps it from fraying. I drenched my skeleton in it and it worked like a charm! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So I first sewed down the black denim background, then laid the skeleton piece on top and machine stitched it down. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAVz0mGCdkhm4mQGpfQK0TxVUhtn1oCwpx2ufCPQ6PrdzBFJBvGp1cfBNxMAz5tsgNiubUpimjQvHS_f-vEdwm6hzMZ3qO7Nnnsg8afiU2iizEHkY00AnD5UvJknL6BGYAuOSrodoLP1u4/s1600/jacket+bat+back.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAVz0mGCdkhm4mQGpfQK0TxVUhtn1oCwpx2ufCPQ6PrdzBFJBvGp1cfBNxMAz5tsgNiubUpimjQvHS_f-vEdwm6hzMZ3qO7Nnnsg8afiU2iizEHkY00AnD5UvJknL6BGYAuOSrodoLP1u4/s320/jacket+bat+back.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Over the muslin, I was going to paint in details but instead I decided to hand stitch detail with black thread. I'm glad I did that because it looks better and I don't have to worry about the ink/paint running if it gets wet. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeWydUGl1ag3sM5IUMZmqOMiIqrGxpMPAS-UkD0eQFW9USpE1Tgq9Sj1zjZHWMaWMHMa-FMkUfa3MbBNy5SgFLVYp-yY6HxKMII8gWexOROvshqgOM5H3SRB2wD3JeqOTeRaJbTzddmRgA/s1600/bat+deets.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeWydUGl1ag3sM5IUMZmqOMiIqrGxpMPAS-UkD0eQFW9USpE1Tgq9Sj1zjZHWMaWMHMa-FMkUfa3MbBNy5SgFLVYp-yY6HxKMII8gWexOROvshqgOM5H3SRB2wD3JeqOTeRaJbTzddmRgA/s320/bat+deets.JPG" width="240" /> </a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><3 </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
